Sick is a partner of the international conference, led by "RFID im Blick" at CeBIT in Hanover on March 8th, 2012. With the core themes aviation, industrial automation, logistics and transport, and personal identification, the most current, in vogue topics are represented on the conference program. Manfred Pierl, a technology expert from Sick, will present the topic, "Luggage Handling at the Airport." At the accompanying exhibition during the all-day event, competent experts from Sick will be available for discussions.

RFID Application for Luggage Handling

AIDC/RFID technologies help decreasing the throughput times of luggage on the airport, reducing the manual expense and curbing the search and handling costs for lost or delayed luggage. For this purpose, sensor specialist Sick offers a solution for luggage identification across the whole luggage handling process - from check-in to loading and luggage claim at the destination. This is exemplified by the "Airport Luggage Identification System" (ALIS). The solution serves to optimize the automatic luggage identification in the luggage handling system at the airport. A current trend can be recognized in the automation of check-in and luggage drop-off processes. RFID solutions by Sick are used to label and read RFID luggage tags at unmanned luggage counters. These so-called Self-Bag-Drop-Systems allow a stress-free and time-saving check-in - and therefore increase the satisfaction of passenger, airline and the airport management. Self-Bag-Drop-Systems with Sick technologies are being used in every major airport in Australia, in Paris, Amsterdam, and currently in pilot projects in Munich and Frankfurt.

Experts of Process Optimization

For over 60 years, Sick has been a leading manufacturer of sensors and sensor solutions that contribute to the continuous optimization of logistic, factory, and process automation right from the start. Worldwide, over 5,000 employees at over 40 German and international subsidiaries help customers select, check, and implement the sensors that best meet their needs. In the "Sick Logistics Technology Center's" test environment, customers can replicate the desired productive AIDC environment and check and approve their chosen sensor solutions.
