Industrial handhelds and tablets with optional NFC and HF interfaces will round off the portfolio with efficient and reasonably priced devices

Robust, efficient, compatible, and reasonably priced? The new “Scorpion” handheld and tablet product series for industrial applications by Bressner Technology is available in sizes of up to 12 inches and in high IP protection classes. It supports common operating systems and is equipped with a barcode scanner and a camera as well as various interfaces. NFC and HF interfaces can be optionally integrated. Alexander Pluntke from Bressner speaks with “RFID im Blick Global” about product details, benefits, and application areas of the new “Scorpion“ tablet and handheld series.

Handhelds available up to 6 inches and tablets up to 12.2 inches

In March 2016, the system house and value-added distributor Bressner Technology presented a new handheld and tablet series to complete the array in this field. “The broadly positioned ‘Scorpion’ series completes the product range. We can offer handhelds from 4.5 inches to 5 inches to 5.2 inches to 6 inches. The tablets are available in 7 inches, 8 inches, 10 inches, or 12.2 inches, optionally with Windows 10 Professional or Android 5.1 as an operating system,” Alexander Pluntke explains and states: “The devices have dirt and moisture protection classes from IP65 to IP68. A 1D/2D barcode scanner, a camera, and a 13.56 MHz RFID reader can be optionally integrated into the devices. They support WLAN, GPS, Bluetooth, and – depending on the configuration – LTE and 3G. Customized adjustments such as additional protection film against solar radiation or software programming are possible.”

“The new ‘Scorpion’ products series of handhelds and tablets for industrial applications by Bressner Technology is available in sizes of up to 12.2 inches, supports common operating systems, has high protection classes up to IP68, and is equipped with a barcode scanner, a camera, and an optional NFC interface. The product line is priced far below those of competitors, whose products often cost double or triple as much.” - Alexander Pluntke, Sales Department, Bressner Technology

Low cost – high performance

The customer particularly benefits from the good price-performance ratio of the “Scorpion” devices from the new product series, Pluntke says: “The high protection classes shield the product from the penetration by dirt and water as well as from damage in harsh operating environment. The capacitive touchscreen is resistant to scratches and wear. Even after a fall from 1.2 meters the devices work perfectly because they are shock-resistant. The price varies, of course, depending on the number of items and equipment. The customer benefits from our round-the-clock service, as Bressner Technology completely manages the provisioning, customer-specific adaptations, and quality tests. Tablets and handhelds can be tested by the customer as a loan in the company’s own environment for four to eight weeks,” Pluntke says.

1D/2D scanner for authentication, NFC for maintenance?

Above all, Pluntke sees potential applications of the product line in the field of warehouse logistics and commisioning. The optional NFC interface is particularly interesting for process optimization in the area of maintenance, the sales employee states. Currently, the devices are tested under real conditions in different projects: “‘Scorpion” products are deployed at a company whose employees check measuring stations all over Germany, for example. Before the implementation of the product series, employees recorded the measured values on writing pads.

Now, they capture a barcode with a 1D/2D scanner for authentication to give the system an overview of which locations the employee has already visited and which they still need to visit. The employees enter the measured data into the tablet and, thus, have them always available both portably and digitally. In other projects also, the 1D/2D scanner plays an essential role. Currently, major projects are being implemented.”
