Banking Cards “Made in Germany”

Over the past few months there’s been increased discussion about the much-touted “Made in Germany” quality seal. The press cited a number of cases in which companies actually perform only a fraction of the services needed to manufacture a product in Germany, but nevertheless use the “Made in Germany” mark of quality for advertising purposes.

Not so at exceet: We have and will continue to make debit and credit cards exclusively at our production facilities in Germany. In Unterschleißheim near Munich, we make products including banking cards in compliance with maximum security standards. Subject to strict MasterCard and VISA requirements, Exceet provides end-to-end services for debit and credit card production.

At Exceet, “Made in Germany” not only applies to the bank card itself:

We also conduct all our personalization services in Germany, as well as other downstream processes such as PIN mailing via lettershop. Our Unterschleißheim facility is also home to a maximum-security Trust Center that operates in accordance with the Signature Act (SigG) and the strict specifications of the Federal Network Agency (BNetzA) for the issuing of qualified times stamps.

Fabian RauFabian Rau “All the trends in the retail world are moving towards contactless payment solutions. Modern, urban services based on multifunctional customer cards are on the rise as well. For many years, exceet has been working closely with the European banking industry and has already implemented a variety of these innovative solutions – like “girogo” for contactless payment via debit card or credit card. We are now seeing increased customer demand for this and similar solutions and we already offer all the state-ofthe- art technologies for these upcoming market requirements.”

Drivers’ license cards must be manufactured in line with specific requirements and specifications, varying by issuing state. Thanks to Exceet’s extensive and versatile production facilities and its wealth of technical expertise, the company has everything that’s required to produce these security-sensitive, technically demanding identification documents. The card specialist therefore manufactures drivers’ licenses for various countries within and beyond Europe, as well as police IDs which are subject to similar requirements.

Security requirements – not for everyone

Production requirements differ by country of issue. For example, there may be regulations requiring certain card materials, inks and/or personalization options. For the manufacturer, a major challenge is matching the required colors when printing the front and back sides. Usually, the client requires printing with OVI inks, in which the printed image differs depending on the light and the angle of view.

Not every card producer is permitted to use OVI security inks. Exceet, however, has the required permits and is therefore able, as one of the few providers on the market, to employ these inks to manufacture highly counterfeit-proof plastic cards.

Personalization & materials – “for experts only”

Readying the cards for personalization means additional challenges for production technology. Since client countries usually demand that these small plastic cards must be able to store a great deal of information, they require the insertion of small boxes that have to be placed with utmost precision by the card producer. This is another discipline that Exceet, with its extensive card production experience, handles with ease.

Last but not least, the card material required for the manufacture of drivers’ license cards requires the use of special production machinery. Clients often demand ABS, an especially high-grade and heat-resistant plastic. Exceet has the required production machines and many years of experience in processing ABS materials. The company is also able to produce ID cards in PC (polycarbonate) or PET-G (glycolated polyethylene enterephthalate). Exceet possesses the required manufacturing technology as well as many years of experience in processing ABS. For over a decade, Exceet’s manufacturing capabilities, its know-how and its certification for the use of security inks have made the company a reliable partner for European and non-European countries in producing counterfeit-proof identity documents.

New Requirements for
Visa Credit CardsNew Requirements for Visa Credit Cards

Calling all issuers of Visa credit cards!

In future, Visa cards must provide a means for contactless payment, as stipulated by the new Visa Europe Regulation.

Deadline: 31st Dec. 2016

Latest from 31st December 2016, all newly issued Visa credit cards must fulfill the new requirements for use at the POS (point of sale). As a certified Visa partner, Exceet maintains a close and continual dialog with the regulatory authorities and is happy to inform customers about the requirements that apply to their particular use case. Even today, the card specialist already supports all the production procedures approved by the new regulations for credit cards with contactless payment capability. Additionally, Exceet customers benefit from the exclusive opportunity to obtain any and all necessary services from Germany – from blank card supply, to personalization, to lettershop.

We Protect Your Contactless Cards from Unauthorized Access

Security is a vital consideration not just in production, but also when transporting the new credit cards. If the client desires, Exceet will ship the cards with transport protection. This safeguards the contactless payment-capable card from unauthorized access until it is first used by the card holder.

Dual Interface Technology Promotes Contactless Payment Trend

Not only we at Exceet have noticed that the trend toward contactless payment has been gathering momentum for years. Visa credit cards currently have a market share of over 44% in Europe. According to information published by the EHI Retail Institute, this share should rise still further thanks to the switch to dual interface cards. Exceet works in close collaboration with the German banking industry and is thus able to provide a wide range of state-of-the-art card technologies. Credit institutions should prepare early for the new trend toward contactless payment so as to be able to keep offering their customers the latest word in credit cards.
