“What good is the most innovative technology if it cannot communicate with other systems? Digitization and the IoT are a strong influence on the creation of future industrial processes today and thus generate a lot of uncertainty for companies. But even today, there are mature, standardized solutions,” underlines Stefan Hoppe, Global Vice President, OPC Foundation.

Networking of all devices is progressing by leaps and bounds

Time is of the essence. According to studies, in 2016 over 10 billion RFID tags have been sold. Until 2020, experts expect a growth in connected devices to up to 30 billion, depending on estimates. At RFID tomorrow 2017, important questions around secure data transfer in M2M communication will be discussed. As a partner, the OPC foundation will show efficient solutions at the event.

Secure communication in the IoT – a key topic in 2017

The secure data transfer in the IoT is one of the key topics in 2017. OPC UA will assume an important role in solving this challenge. With the companion specification for Auto ID devices, the OPC Foundation has shown how important a standardized technology for secure communication in an industrial environment is.

There is no development without expert know-how

The OPC Foundation will demonstrate the practical uses of OPC UA with live technology showcases. Numerous Auto ID devices by name manufacturers are already OPC UA ready and support system integrators and technology providers in taking the next step towards the IoT age. “Together with technology providers, integrators and industry associations, we work on optimal data modelling. That IT companies such as Microsoft and SAP, but also telecommunication companies like KETI (Korea) and Huawei (China) have joined the OPC Foundation shows the importance of the challenge. For the success of a safe M2M communication, expert know-how from different industries is indispensable,” Hoppe explains.

The partnership of RFID tomorrow 2017 and the OPC Foundation is the chance to further develop OPC UA with the active participation of both developers and users.
