RFID, NFC, Bluetooth – all-in-one reader with contactless configuration

Elatec RFID Systems, a specialist in developing RFID readers and writers, will be exhibiting at embedded world in Hall 3, Stand 3-239 (Messe Nürnberg 14–16 March 2017). Alongside versatile multi-frequency and multi-standard devices, Elatec will be showcasing advanced rollout solutions for radio identification systems: contactless reader configuration using RFID cards and RFID standard recognition of random RFID tags.

The TWN4 MultiTech family from Elatec RFID Systems gives developers an extremely wide range of options: Thanks to the integration of a multi-standard RFID reader, there is no need to determine during application development which specific RFID technology the end customer uses. The family’s flagship product, the TWN4 MultiTech 2 BLE, is optimised for over 60 RFID technologies in the 125 kHz, 134.2 kHz and 13.56 MHz frequency ranges and also integrates NFC and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE).

The broad technology supported optionally enables end users to identify themselves using only their mobile phones at the reader. Android phones, iPhones, Windows-based smartphones, tablets and similar mobile devices are also supported. Elatec readers are available in different formats – from modules for integration into other machines (e.g., vending machines, fitness machines) through to plug-and-play desktop readers (e.g., multi-function printers, PC log-on).

Configuration made easy

The work needed to configure multiple TWN4 MultiTech 2 BLE readers for large projects can be reduced significantly by storing the required reader configuration on contactless RFID cards. Each reader is configured simply by reading these cards. The preferred configuration can therefore be set without having to uninstall readers or connect them to a PC. For extra security, you can optionally submit a command to block subsequent programming attempts made with a configuration card.

For solution providers and system integrators, Elatec also offers a clever RFID analysis tool: When discussions with customers are at an early stage, it is often not known which RFID technologies are used in the existing infrastructure – Elatec TechTracer Lite can determine this by analysing the previously used RFID transponders onsite.
