Hong Kong TV Shopping Network Company Ltd. (HKTV) has appointed SSI Schaefer as general contractor for intralogistics operations at their fully automated e-commerce center in the Southeast of Hong Kong.

The deal was completed in September, when the two parties signed the contract at the Logistica trade show. HKTV awarded the logistics systems provider the contract for the large-scale project at the Tseung Kwan O Industrial Estate. SSI Schaefer will be responsible for the material flow concept, the implementation plan, and the turnkey realization of the logistics center.

Currently, HKTV Group is developing the HKTVmall, which will be the region's largest 24-hour online shopping mall. This comprehensive platform provides a one-stop shop for entertainment, shopping, and delivery services. Such a strategy entails complex logistical processes – a challenge SSI Schaefer is meeting head-on by implementing an efficient, tailor-made intralogistics solution.

In the 5,000-m2 picking and warehouse area of the existing building, as well as in the new extension building, the material flows for pick-to-order activities will largely be based on the goods-to-person picking strategy. As well as the dynamic bin conveying system, this includes the installation of a 4-aisle automated miniload system (AMS) with more than 30,000 bin storage locations and around 730 flow storage locations.

In addition, the intralogistics specialist will erect a Schäfer Carousel System (SCS) with nearly 15,000 storage locations and four connected Pick to Tote workstations for picking. The installation of 27 further workstations, of which 17 will have integrated Pick by Light systems, will optimize quality control and the manual repacking and picking processes in the new HKTV Multimedia and E-commerce Center. For the replenishment and storage of items, which cannot be kept in bins, the intralogistics solution provider will also install various pallet racks and a Schäfer Orbiter® system with 270 pallet storage locations. Here storage and retrieval will be carried out according to the FIFO principle.

The two-phase installation will be completed by the end of 2019 and the system will eventually reach a performance capacity of around 1,800 consignments per hour – with the help of software support provided by SSI Schaefer. The general contractor's logistics software WAMAS® and the visualization system WAMAS® Lighthouse ensure end-to-end transparency and efficient process control of order fulfillment.
