RFID for Fashion Retailers

Departure apart from the Mainstream

„Being an SME offers enornous advantages. This fact also applies to competition in retail. Fashion retailers with only a few stores have specific potential that they sometimes underestimate themselves. Cleverly using the individual rapidity and flexibility, multiplied with the right solution, means getting the required strength for the market“, says Michael Hedtke, Project Management Rako Security Label. Together with Thorsten Wischnewski, Divisional Director RFID, he explains how small and medium-sized fashion enterprises can prepare themselves for the future with targeted process optimization and why it is now an important moment to invest in an RFID solution.

Special machines by Pasquini + Kromer produce customized solutions for counterfeit and theft protection

Often, special solutions are needed in the pharmaceuticals and food industries. Manufacturing high quality labels and RFID labels with additional features to protect products against counterfeiting or theft, for instance, requires long years of experience, precision, and the right know-how. It is crucial not only to use high quality material and modern printing technology, but also to select the right combination of these.

Integration Platform for RFID Reader Systems and Localization Solutions

The combination of RFID and WLAN can be in demand when indoor and outdoor localization of forklifts, workpieces in production, or tracking of transport carts and security personnel at the airport is to be realized. The spin-off company LIV Tec provides an integration platform that combines positioning solutions via RFID or GPS to an overall solution. It gives system integrators a „tool box“ to realize complex applications.

Flexible UHF Antenna Systems

Hardly any room for installation, mechanical stresses, barriers within the read field – the user's and application environment's demands are the system integrator's challenges. The flexible and robust antenna Ha-VIS Locfield generates a homogenous read field at a UHF frequency band and can be installed in the most different two or threedimensional paths. The antenna design simplifies the installation in the application and increases the chances of equipping an antenna in the most functional way.

RFID Center for Tests and Analyses

System integrators, OEMs, and users can test the transponder's function in a specific application at the Kathrein RFID test center

What are the technical requirements for an RFID system? The Test and Analysis Center Amerang provides the opportunity to depict the new market's requirements, conduct systematic tests, and to optimize the system's read rate or operability. Seventy percent of the conducted analyses are eventually rolled out. That rate is also a result of feasability analyses that the applications, intended by the customers, have to undergo in advance to the tests. System integrators, OEMs and users can measure tagged products at the test center and analyze the transponder function in specific applications.

As a widely used load carrier, the „intelligent plastic pallet“ by Craemer by means of RFID becomes an information carrier with unexpected potentials for the supply chain

It was already eight years ago when Craemer Group launched a plastic pallet in the market that was featuring integrated RFID transponders. The resulting option of automatic identification allowed to make supply chain processes more transparent and increase the degree of automation in intralogistics applications, reports Frank Bücker, Sales / Applications Manager Plastic at Craemer. He adds: „With regard to the developments, summed up in the term 'Industry 4.0', the focus is more and more on intelligent plastic pallets.“ However, comprehensive know how is crucial if an RFID solution is to be realized that ensures lean and efficient processes.

The worldwide yearly consumption of RFID tags has greatly exceeded the 1 billion mark and shows further tendencies of grow

The production of tickets and labels has become highly automated and is usually carried out on highly productive roll-roll-systems. Currently, the technolgy is most widely used in logistics, ticketing, and retail. Away from the mass markets, there are applications that require labels and similar products in smaller quantities in a customized format and print/ design. One of the specialties of Plasticard-ZFT is the production of RFID labels and tags in runs between 100 and 100,000.

Small Chip With a Lot Behind

Hundreds of pallets are packed, moved and loaded daily at one of Norway’s leading paper, carton and packaging manufacturers. To optimize the processes, the company has recently been putting its money on RFID technology: all pallets are RFID tagged and labelled. Fully automatically applied by Bluhm Systeme label printing dispensers.

Linking operational data and business data bears an enormous potential to increase efficiency. Processes in the world of manufacturing are normally handled using controllers (PLC) with connected sensors and actuators. Order processing, materials management, warehouse management, and production planning are, however, rooted in the world of ERP systems.

Middleware and Device Management

The End of Complexity

In the automobile industry, the use of RFID is characterized by high complexity from a technological point of view. Different standards make it difficult to use RFID throughout the whole supply chain. With a solution that includes middleware and device management, Nofilis works on this challenge and shows how to take the complexity out of RFID solutions to facilitate to rollout.
