VTT develops and produces highend lamination plates with innovative security features for the production of cards worldwide.

ID-documents and security badges must necessarily feature state-of-the-art technology to be as secure as possible from forgery. The basis for the production of a card is the lamination plate. In card production, security features in different gradations are integrated into the card and onto its surface. As worldwide leaders in this sector of technology, VTT develops and manufactures high-end lamination plates for governmental and private companies. Using innovative developments, VTT wants to revolutionize some of the market fields regarding production efficiencies.

The demands for security and efficiency in the global supply chain are growing constantly. Establishing standards is one of the major tasks and still a longlasting process. “We are going to see the complementary use of different AutoID technologies for a long time“, says Detlef Aßmus, HLI.

The changes in industry and logistics are based on increasing usage of information- and communications technology

Industry 4.0 is not something that happens in isolation in one branch. Changes in individual private customers' behavior strongly affects the developments in logistics and industry”, says Prof. Dr. Schenk. However, in his opinion, Germany’s position in the international competition has to be secured, especially by globally acting companies. In the Interview with “RFID im Blick”, he is exemplary in presenting the connection of changes in different fields; he explains what role logistics are taking in the environment of industrial evolution, and illustrates why a heating fitter can profit from the technologies of Industry 4.0.

In order to uphold Germany’s position in the competitive international industry, companies, organizations and associations, politicians, and science have to work hand in hand.

„Ideas regarding Industry 4.0 are already the reality in some German industries. To be able to meet international competition, a change on many levels is needed“, says Prof. Dr. Alexander Pflaum. „It is of importance that all parties involved – major enterprises, SME, politicians, and research – pursue the same goal. This is the only way to use manufacturing technologies whose integration would overtax one single company alone.“ In the interview with „RFID im Blick“ Alexander Pflaum talks about factors that could secure the competitive position of Germany as a top industrial location.

Data saved at high speed and permanently available

High writing speed and multiple billion overwriting cycles – only two of the various advantages that are brought by FRAM-technology and that qualify it as the ideal memory technology for many different RFID-applications. What particular benefits FRAM-technology has got for RFID-applications and where the boundaries of permanent data saving are, that’s what „RFID im Blick“ talked about with Jozsef Miho, product marketing engineer at Fujitsu Semiconductor Europe.

For the wood composite manufacturer Wilms, it was a logical choice to also become a RFID-solution provider and system integrator

Being a user as well as a developer makes providers of RFID-solutions ideal project partners. The benefits are obvious: practical experiences flow continuously and directly into the solution optimization process. Since the beginning of pallet manufacturing 60 years ago, the family company Wilms grew into a highly sought all-in provider of RFID-based logistics systems – from the first self-wound coil for internal pallet tracking to end-to-end UHF-tracking solutions. The acquisition of Felix Schoeller Supply Chain Technologies’ (FST) RFID-division was the final step of development into an all-in provider of RFID-based logistic systems. What critical development steps did this diversely positioned company take? How is the stability of customer-specific RFID-systems before the go-live date ensured?

„Information is the oil of the future“

Jörg Bald, CEO of Waldemar Winckel, in an Interview with Anja van Bocxlaer, „RFID im Blick“ discussed the development of customer’s wishes, the role of big data and the generation of information by using new analysis methods.

Since the technological development of RFID has already progressed very far. In the eyes of Jörg Bald the optimizing potential mainly lies in the generation of information and their analysis: RFID opens new sources for data mining – and linking this gained data to form these new sources into information in a centralized system allows the company to analyze existing processes, identify problems and to improve procedures.

RFID Printers: Internet of Things Solutions

Printer systems that are easy to integrate and meet all the requirements for the use of RFID in retail, industry, and healthcare

Simple integration of RFID modules, easy to handle printing systems, and sinking tag prices, have raised expectations regarding increased implementations. The request for RFID solutions is expected to increase significantly in the sectors of healthcare, transport and logistics, as well as document management in the field of government. An important reason for this development is that nowadays, RFID printers can be used via plug and play. Operation and integration have become easy and flexible.
