Feig provides access control with RFID for snow and more

When winter lasts half a year and produces one metre of snow, snow disposal is one of the most important tasks that a municipality can face. The 191,000-person town of Regina, Canada, requires a budget of 6.5 million Euros for snow and ice removal each year. In order to reduce that amount, Regina relies on innovative solutions: with RFID technology from FEIG, the city of Regina was able to automate access control to its municipal snow disposal – and cut down on costly unlicensed dumping.

Idesco installation offers a high level of security and a full access control system

When it was time to replace the old access control system, the Norwegian Rikshospitalet (Oslo University Hospital) looked for an installation that was cost-effective and easy to handle but also provided high security standards and a built-in option for future updates. Ultimately, Idesco’s 8 CD 2.0 Slim Pin DESFire readers met the hospital‘s needs best. Hence, G4S Secure Solutions AS, the largest security services provider in the world, deployed eight hundred of Idesco readers in Oslo University Hospital’s new access control system.

A global Industry 4.0 strategy

Nokia Operations wants to set standards for smart products

Nothing less than a global standard which is easy to adapt – this is the objective for Nokias’ supply chain following the implementation of its carefully planned Industry 4.0 transition strategy. RFID technology takes a key role in this future concept. The experts in network infrastructure are certain that Industry 4.0 is only possible with a foundation of smart products. “RFID im Blick Global” talks with Claus Heller, Karl Kirschenhofer, and Jose Menendez about the steps that will bring added value to Nokia Operations and their customers. To achieve these ambitious goals, production processes demand more than one RFID label.

A customer card increases loyalty: the fact that 98,000 have been issued with RFID speaks for itself

The “swa KAROCARD” currently provides an allin- one discount card for the people of Augsbury, Germany, to use for shopping, public transport or cashless payments at the FC Augsburg stadium. Introduced in 2003, the customer loyalty card, which has been running on RFID-technology since 2008, is a great success, with more than 98,000 cards issued. The product has continued to develop: additional applications have been regularly implemented, such as bike rental or e-charging stations from 2010 or discounted admission tickets to the municipal baths from 2014.

The city of Stuttgart pioneers a way of accessing transport and leisure services and purchasing in Germany

Anyone who travels regularly by public transport requires a ticket. Anyone who wants to use a car-sharing vehicle requires a card, and if you want to pay you need a card, too. And with each card the thickness of your wallet increases. Working with numerous partners, the city of Stuttgart has adopted an ambitious project to enable a single smart card to make payments and access transport and other services – this has been developed by the company Exceet for the Smart City project. Fabian Rau of Exceet talked to “RFID im Blick” about the aims of the project, the functionality of the application and the future potential of a newly developed security token.

Unique in German-speaking countries: The RFID multifunction cards used by Tyrol Clinic employees are the basis of a comprehensive service and security system

Since 2003, achieving a comprehensive security system has been a management priority for the Tyrol Clinics hospital group, with the hospital board establishing a successful, dedicated unit to manage all aspects of security in one place. Tyrol Clinics is now a pioneer of future- and needs-based security management in German-speaking coun- Clinic Safety Issues tries. A first system was implemented 15 years ago to make use of electronic access solutions, and now includes self-service dispensers for physical keys, drugs and post, as well as priority control of lifts. Security Service

Condor group uses innovative applications for quality assurance and service optimization

Innovative security service providers have left the image of a night watchman long ago. Meanwhile they cover highly qualified fields of activity such as control of baggage and persons at the airport, facility management or protection of rail construction sites against dangers of railway operations. For this activity the use of RFID technology plays an increasingly important role. No matter if passive RFID transponders are used to document controls carried out by the security personnel or active transponders are used to track persons in high risk areas, RFID technology is the key to the solution over and over.
