German appliance manufacturer Miele has decided to consequently use the OPC UA Standard in their device manufacturing and join the OPC Foundation. The integrated security providing encryption and signing is comprehensively implemented throughout Miele.

One major advantage of OPC UA is provision of standardized interfaces within different systems. Wasted time caused by integration, when inventing the wheel over and over again, has mostly come to an end. With that the real task - transporting data content - comes back into focus.

Reducing engineering efforts in communication technology, i.e. in highly flexible production processes like Industrie 4.0, dramatically decreases cost.

in Press Releases | By OPC Foundation | 11 December 2017

The CC-Link Partner Association (CLPA), in association with the OPC Foundation, has announced an OPC UA companion specification for the CLPA’s new “CSP+ for Machine” technology to further ease the implementation of Industry 4.0 type applications.

CSP+ for Machine is an extension of the CLPA’s existing “CSP+” (Control & Communication System Profile) that provides easy network configuration and maintenance by offering profiles that describe each device on a CC-Link IE or CC-Link network. CSP+ technology has been established for some time and provides easy drag and drop network configuration from CSP+ files provided by CLPA partner vendors, allowing convenient device libraries to be created.

The new Elatec universal RFID reader/writer module supports all current RFID standards for the frequency ranges 125 and 134.2 kHz as well as the 13.56 MHz band, including NFC. The latter, when combined with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), can allow iPhones and Android smartphones to be used for identification and wallet solutions.

As a PCB, designed for space-saving purposes, the TWN4 MultiTech 3 BLE is more compact than its predecessors, the TWN4 MultiTech and the TWN4 MultiTech 2 BLE. The 50 x 35 x 7 mm module can be delivered with customized protective housing. Upon request, additional interfaces can be implemented, such as CAN bus and OSDP/RS485 for industrial applications.

SICK

in Press Releases | By Sick | 27 November 2017

With the opening up of the hitherto proprietary HIPERFACE DSL interface, SICK has paved the way for all suppliers of motor feedback systems to make this internationally used standard available to their customers. Now Baumer is already implementing HIPERFACE DSL. Other sensor producers will also start using the single-cable technology – discussions are already underway.

“HIPERFACE DSL is the standard in single-cable technology – a proven interface that has long become established in the field worldwide. It offers technical and economic advantages to all participating market partners. In addition, the digital interface meets all the prerequisites for state-oriented machine maintenance within the Industry 4.0 environment,” confirms Dr. Michael Schneider, Manager of Product Management at Baumer Motion Control.
